November 12th Principal's Update

Dear OBE families,

Friday we had a special day here at OBE. We had about 47% of the students attend. Those who attended had a special day with very small class sizes. I'm sure those who took advantage of a mental health day also had a day that served them well. I appreciate the outcome for both groups and whichever group your child was in, no doubt it was the right call.

This week will be all minimum days to allow for parent/teacher conferences. Dismissal will be at 12:15pm each day. Also, this week starting on Tuesday we will have the lost and found cart out each day. In the morning it will be on the Newport Avenue side near the double gates. In the afternoon it will be on the Santa Monica side neat the small parking lot. I want to give parents more opportunities to find any missing items. We still have a full load and I want to make sure everyone has had a chance to recover their items. Please talk to your students as well, reminding them to look at the cart during their recess time. Any unclaimed items will be donated to charity during the following week.

From our nurse:

Please remind your student about the following layers of mitigation and send them to school prepared:
-As the weather cools down, students should bring a jacket or wear appropriate clothes to school, as classroom windows will be left open.
-Wash hands or hand sanitize when entering school, before lunch, and after recess.
-Facemasks should be worn over mouth and nose. Gaiters offer the least amount of protection and must be double layered, so they are not recommended.

From our PTA:

The PTA would like to announce our first ever Coin Drive Fundraiser. The first week back after Thanksgiving Break, have your kiddos bring in loose change or extra coins that you may have all week to deposit into their Coin Drive Classroom Jar. Everyday, they can bring in a different coin to make it fun (and even educational for the younger grades to learn their coin values). Here is the schedule:

Monday, 11/29: Pennies

Tuesday, 11/30 : Nickels

Wednesday, 12/1 : Dimes

Thursday, 12/2 : Quarters

Friday, 12/3: Any coins left over or missed from a previous day

(Coin can be loose or rolled, if that is something you happen to have as well)

ALL FUNDS RAISED will go directly to putting more books and fun resources on the OBE Library shelves! The classroom that raises the most funds will earn a Pizza Party! (see Flyer here: OBE Coin Drive

Finally, OBE will be closed for Thanksgiving Break from Monday, November 22nd to Friday, November 26th. We hope all our OBE families will enjoy a week with family and loved ones.

In partnership,

Marco Drapeau
